The boys meet this week to discuss the story that that has caused ripples throughout Korean football and beyond as one-time FC Seoul legend Dejan Demanovic has agreed to join bitter rivals Suwon Bluewings in a transfer none would have predicted as the winter close season fell upon us.Continue reading “Episode 145 – Damn!janovic”
On this week’s episode the boys discuss the final round of the K-League Classic as Suwon Bluewings confirmed their place in the ACL qualifiers and Sangju confirmed their place in the playoffs due to a quite ridiculous episode of shambolic defending as not one but three players trip over each other and fail to prevent Incheon taking the lead. Sangju would then go on to somehow return from Busan 1-0 to the good after being pummeled by the lower league team in the first leg of the playoff final and find themselves in pole position going into the 2nd leg. As mentioned The Bluewings fought their way into next year’s ACL with a spirited comeback in Jeonju with the departing Santos being the hero, coming off the bench and scoring twice to send the boys in blue back home with 3pts in their pocket and smiles on their faces. Both FC Seoul and Ulsan managed to round the season off with victories and all eyes will now be on the FA Cup final as Ulsan and Busan clash over two legs to see who will take home the silverware and that all important last ACL spot.
Also on this week’s episode the guys give their winners and losers of the week, discuss the upcoming playoff final leg and how Sangju’s captain still gets to play despite his red card against Incheon, they talk about the Gyeonggi Cup, all the hot news making the K-League forums buzz, FC Seoul’s new “fashion range” and more……
This week saw the return of Mark to co-host the podcast as the guys turned their attention to the FA Cup and the Challenge which plays it’s final round of matches before the playoffs this weekend. One of the main topics for discussion was more VAR drama as the Video Referee continues to kill the K-League star. This week there were penalties given and taken away and goals chopped off all for what, to the naked eye, seemed ridiculous decisions. The Supermatch ended 2-2 due to a dubious VAR penalty and then Suwon crashed out of the FA Cup with VAR playing yet another heavy role in the proceedings. It’s fairly safe to say that VAR hasn’t been the roaring success many thought, and hoped, it would be and it’s definitely something that needs fine tuning for next year. Interestingly in my old days working in IT VAR stood for Value Added Re-seller, one would imagine you could travel the length and breadth of Korea without finding anyone who sees some added value of this system!!
Also on this week’s show the boys review the recent matches in both the Classic and Challenge, relive a VAR-esque moment involving Dejan and a big screen, reveal their losers and winners of the week, look ahead to the weekend’s clashes and more……
This week sees The Phantom make the trip to 48 Shades Towers as he and Mark discuss the main issues making the news in Korean football. Hot on that list of topics is some recent transfer shenanigans that can best be described as a tad complex. We had Alex moving to E-Land from Anyang and in turn Lukian moving from Busan to Anyang to potentially make way for Leo coming from Daegu. We had podcast favourite Rodrigo Parana returning to Bucheon. Pohang swapped Lee Dong Ki for Seongnam’s Oh Do Hyun (of laughing at FC Seoul fame) and E-Land signed Ahn Jae Hoon from fellow Challenge club Suwon. Confused yet? A lot of work lies ahead for the ‘name of the back of the shirt’ industry that’s for sure.
Also on this week’s show the boys review two sets of Classic fixtures, discuss Pohang’s plight, look at some interesting PR from Seongnam, discuss gardening tips, look ahead to the weekend’s matches and more……
” I am in misery, there ain’t nobody who can comfort me”
This week the guys discuss the highly anticipated FA Cup match as FC Seoul welcome Anyang to Seoul World Cup Stadium for what could be a fiery encounter both on and off the pitch. Anyang fans do like to hold a grudge and still haven’t forgiven the KFA for relocating their team to Sangam. Many of the fans forums recently have been swamped by the boys in purple as they seem to view this as their “match of the season”. With Seoul in rather unpredictable form, and the memory of Bucheon claiming Jeonbuk’s cup scalp last year still fresh, this was has all the potential to be a cracker…..or Seoul could very well run out 5-0 winners. Whatever happens I’m sure those of a purple persuasion will have some kind of display in store for their hosts!
Also on this week’s show the guys discuss the continuing poor form of Seongnam (editor’s note : I’m just cutting and pasting that sentence week on week now), review a rather mixed week for the ACL teams, give an update on Uli and where he might be come next summer, they preview the weekend’s matches, discuss team’s of the week and more…..
This week the guys discuss the goings on at FC Seoul as yet again the Champions put in a rather schizophrenic performance as they failed to show up for the first 45 minutes of their match against title rivals Jeonbuk. They were 1-0 down at half-time before Hwang gave them the hair-dryer treatment in the dressing room. This is not the first time that it has taken them a full half to ‘warm-up’ and it must now cast doubts over Hwang’s ability to lead them to a title defence. The boys also discuss just what it takes for Kim Shin Wook to get sent off as he somehow amazingly escaped a straight red card for aiming a petulant kick at Ju Se Jong midway through the first half.
Also on this week’s show the guys discuss Seongnam’s shocking start to the season as the boys in black failed to win yet again and still prop up the Challenge table, they preview the upcoming ACL matches, discuss Dejan’s ‘best XI’, preview the upcoming K-League games this weekend and get ready for the birthday party to end all birthday parties!!
This week the boys review the latest round of both K-League and ACL matches with particular focus on the first match at the Gangwon Ski Resort. Seoul may very well have come away from that game with full points but it was the state of the pitch and the frustration of fans trying to get to the game that has made the headlines. The stadium is a cracking place with the ski jump behind the goals but you really do wonder if it is going to hold up for a full season of football. They have made a lot of noise coming into the 2017 season but whether they can back it has still to be seen.
Also on the show this week the boys discuss the recent exploits of the Korean teams in the ACL (spoiler alert it was awful), they discuss the pending punishment for Bluewings Seo Jung Jin, Seongnam’s tough start to life in the Challenge, preview week 3 of the season and more……
