This week Paul is joined at 48 Shades Tower by the Phantom as Mark takes the week off (nothing to do with England in the World Cup). The guys analyze the Korean National Team’s performance in Russia and look at the all important Asian Games coming up in August. The Russia 2018 campaign was a tough one for Koreans to take, defeats to Sweden and Mexico left them with a mountain to climb and even as Son was giving everything he has to make sure he never sclaffed that 93rd minute open goal past the post it was all too little too late as Sweden romped to victory over Mexico and sent both Korea and Germany packing.
The team were cheered like heroes in the main fan areas of Gwanghwmun and City Hall but incredibly on their return some rather disgruntled “fans” met them at the airport and threw eggs at them. One imagines those fans will not be queuing up this weekend to fill a K-League seat. The news coming form KFA Headquarters is that despite guiding his team to victory over the World Champions, Shin Tae-yong is unlikely to have his contract renewed and will have to “apply” for the job alongside such big names as Luis Van Gaal, “Big” Phil Scolari and Andres VIlla Boas. We at 48 Shades are a tad pessimistic about that shortlist and given that the last time the KFA embarked on a ‘global search” we got Uli maybe, just maybe, it’s a case of ‘Better the devil you know’ with Shin.
Also on this week’s show the guys look ahead to the return of the K-League One, review last weekend’s K2 results that put Seongnam top again, discuss the latest transfer stories and much more….
