Episode 167 – Swede FA!

The boys are back with another World Cup 2018 special as we look at where and why it all went wrong for Korea against Sweden and we try to keep the knee-jerking down to a minimum! It was a tough one for fans of the Taegeuk Warriors to take as their heroes fell to a Swedish VAR penalty, confirmed by almost the entire knowledgeable footballing universe to be the correct decision. Paul and Mark look at the tactics, the players and of course Shin Tae-yong as they rake over the coals of yet another KNT failure on the big stage. The surprising news before kick-off was The Wookie starting up front, the least surprising thing was him being hooked after 66 mins! It wasn’t the big man’s fault, he huffed and and puffed and closed his eyes while trying to head the ball but it was all to no avail as he failed to make any sort of impact in the match. He wasn’t the only one to disappoint though with Son, Ki and Hwang Hee-chan all putting in below par performances too. The fallout the next day was, of course, as ridiculous as it was predictable and although we haven’t quite reached yeot throwing levels of national disappointment we are precariously perched on the brink.

It wasn’t all negative though, in as much as Shin undoubtedly got his Wookie call wrong he did pull a blinder by starting Daegu’s Cho Hyun-woo who produced more than one moment of “Super Save” genius. Quite whether it earns him the moniker of “Dae-gea” is another story but our money is on it being more deserved than ‘Son-aldo’ or “‘Yong-dae-sar” *shudder*

The ‘Dae-gea’ moment!!

Also on this week’s show we discuss the great Zlatan vs Cass battle, Lee Keun Ho coming home (again!), FC Seoul’s world cup break friendlies, Suwon FC’s Thailand exodus  and more…..
