The final match of 2016 had witnessed Incheon managing to avoid the playoffs with a last day victory over Suwon FC and it’s probably safe to say that the 2017 season started much the same way as most recent years for Incheon fans with lofty dreams of a top-six finish and realistic aims of just not finishing in the play-offs. The close season had seen the talismanic Kevin (Oris) leave for Japan and with him much of their creative edge. They also lost Serbian defender Matej Jonjic although he was replaced at the back with the signing of Connor Chapman from A-League side Melbourne who would go on to make 27 appearances for the Neroazzurre before earning himself a move to Pohang Steelers. 2017 wouldn’t have quite the same dramatic final day plot as 2016 but it would yet again be another season of humbling defeats and frustrating draws peppered with the occasional heroic fightback.
